Letchworth Garden City was transformed into a celebration of comics, film, gaming and pop culture on Saturday 27th June as Love Letchworth, Garden Square Shopping Centre and Letchworth Library joined forces to host another hugely successful Letchworth Comic Con.
Despite the extreme heat, the event attracted record footfall, with visitors of all ages flocking to the town centre throughout the day to enjoy a packed programme of activities, entertainment and interactive experiences. The soaring temperatures certainly didn’t dampen spirits, with the streets filled with impressive cosplayers whose creativity and enthusiasm brought favourite characters from across the worlds of comics, anime, gaming and film to life.
One of the biggest attractions of the day was the display of supercars lining Leys Avenue and stealing the show was an iconic 1989 Batmobile.
The Arcade hosted a bustling Artist Alley, showcasing the work of talented local artists, illustrators and designers, while Garden Square Shopping Centre welcomed the Merch Market, where visitors could browse an impressive range of comic books, collectibles, artwork, crafts and merchandise from independent traders.
Across the town there was something for everyone to enjoy. Activities included manga workshops, storytelling sessions, Dungeons & Dragons games at The BakeHouse, Pokémon trading at The Storeroom, green screen experiences, foam crafting workshop and virtual reality headsets at Letchworth Library, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to try something new.
The event highlighted the strength of partnership working within the town, with businesses, community groups, traders, volunteers and visitors all playing their part in creating a welcoming and inclusive celebration.
